Classic Ann Landers
14 November 2016
In the 14th of November 2016, that is the last class in this semester. I learned about Ann Landers's life.
First, the teacher gave us a sheet, then had to read texts that people ask Ann Landers for advice about their life by skimming and scanning skill, then we answered the questions from the texts. After that, we summary each of text and wrote that on the white board. The last activity, we had to write the advice for people.
The texts are interested for me, it makes me want to know what it about, so that make me not bored and think it's not difficult.

We answered the questions about my opinion ' Do you agree or Disagree ( Page 60 ) ' After that, we did exercises page 60. Then, we read the text ' Obstacles to faster effective reading and Hints for reading practice by skimming skill ' We answered the questions from the text that we read.
The easy that I found is this lesson isn't difficult for me because it hasn't the new words that I didn't know.

How to Read Faster
Method 1
Improving Your Reading Pace
1. Practice a little every day. A lot of the skills necessary to improve your reading speed will not come naturally to you, so you will need to practice them everyday until they become second nature. Even 15 to 20 minutes of practice per day can make a huge difference to your overall pace.
2.Start with easier material. When you are training yourself to read faster, it's a good idea to start with the easier material -- something that you enjoy or gain immediate value from -- until your abilities improve.
3.Use your finger or an index card to set the pace. It's a good idea to use your finger, a pen or an index card to mark your place on the page as you read. And while using a pointer prevents you from losing your place and having to make regressions, this is not the only benefit.
4. Change your attitude towards reading. In addition to implementing specific techniques for increasing your reading speed, it's also important that you revise your attitude towards reading in general.
5.Know when to slow down. Despite the benefits of reading faster, it's important to recognize that there will be times when you need to slow down and really make an effort to fully comprehend what you're reading.
Method 2
Breaking Bad Habits
1. Avoid sounding out the words in your head. Many people sound out the words as they read -- either by moving their lips or hearing the words in their head. This is known as sub-vocalization and is one of the major problems that affects your reading speed.
2. Avoid reading word-by-word. Another common practice which slows down reading speed hugely is the practice of reading each individual word separately. Instead, you should try to read in chunks.
3. Overcome inefficient eye movement. When children learn how to read, they are taught to look at each word individually before moving onto the next. However, your eyes are capable of taking in much more than a single word at a time -- up to four or five, in fact -- so this practice makes reading a lot less efficient.
4. Eliminate regression. Regression is the practice of reading the same sentence or section two or three times over, whether intentionally or unintentionally. Obviously, this adds a lot of unnecessary time onto your reading, without necessarily improving your understanding of the material.
5. Avoid distractions. Many people are slow readers simply because they are attempting to read in an inappropriate environment. If you want to read quickly and absorb the material in front of you, you need to eliminate both external and internal distractions.
Method 3
Changing the Way You Read
1. Preview the material. One of the most efficient ways of improving your reading speed is to preview the material before you read it. This can help you to get a sense of what the text is about and allow you decide if it's even worth reading in full.
2. Scan for the most important words. Another technique is to simply scan the material and pick out any keywords. By using this method, you can develop a basic understanding of the material without wasting time on the nitty gritty.
3. Read the first and last sentence of every paragraph. If you're reading an article, book or paper for the sole purpose of gleaning new information, then a handy technique is just to read the first and last sentence of each paragraph, especially when it's reiterating something you already know.
4.Skip over the parts you already know. If you're trying to improve your reading speed, you should get used to the idea of skipping over the information you already know or understand, as reading these sections will provide you with little additional value.
5. Retain the most important information. One of the major issues people have when they begin to read faster is that they have difficulty absorbing and retaining the information they come across. While the major solution to this problem is to become a more active and engaged reader, there are several more specific techniques you can try.

Extensive Reading
Extensive Reading
17 October 2016
In the 17th of October 2016, that is the 11th class in this semester. I learned about Extensive reading.
Extensive reading is reading as much as possible, for your own pleasure, at a difficulty level of which you can read smoothly and quickly without looking up words or translating to English as you go. In other words, instead of spending a half hour decoding a tiny part of one book (also known as intensive reading), you read many simpler books that are at or slightly below the level at which you read fluently. This lets you get used to reading more complex sentences with ease, reinforces the words you already know and helps you learn new words from context. ( http://joechip.net/extensivereading/what-is-extensive-reading/)
In the first of class, we did pre- reading exercises ( P. 28 ) and then we read " Simply read " by Finding references, Scanning, Skimming, Preview subtitle, Making inferences skill. Next, we had to a summary of each paragraph. We did exercise page.31 - 32 , then the teacher gave us corrective feedback.
Nothing was easy today because the text was academic, there are a lot of words that I don't know, so I had to find it in the dictionary.
I think this lesson is quite boring because the text is academic, so I can't do exercises well.

Scanning
10 October 2016
In the 10th of October 2016, that is the 10th class in this semester. I learned about Scanning.
How to read scanning
1. Find keywords
2. Locate information
The teacher assigned we had to work in a group and then , we had to do all exercises in this sheet ( P.65 - 82 ) Started from the first passage , Hotel dining , Reader's Digest , Index , Information , Newport , Light Plane Crashes , Biography of Mel Columcille Gibson etc.
The good point of this lesson is very useful. It helps me to read faster from the pass but the difficult is the first of class , I've never try to practice read by scanning before so I use time a lot.

I think it was not easy to understand because there are many difficult words that I didn't know then I had to asked friends and found it in dictionary online.
If my university has decided that all female students should have long hair and all male students have crew cuts I'll disagree with this rule because I think if they have short hair or whatever it's not affected to your education but it depend on your brain.Although you have a short hair or dreadlocks you can clever too.

The difficult part is summary the passage, solution is I asked friends around me how to summary this paragraph and I read this passage repeatedly until I understood.
I think this lesson is so very interested because I usually read magazine about holly wood fashion that made me know more fashion words.

I think that everything can't be communicated by e - mail. The best way to communicated is face - to - face.
The example : When you want to share your experience or something funny, you have to communicate with face-to-face because you have to put feeling or mood if your partner don't see your face or your action , may your partner can't access to emotion of you.
If people lied to me online about their age or appearance, I will angry because if that's not your real information I think you haven't sincerity too.
